I
went to one of the many Internet sites that provide trade leads. If you've been
around international trade for any time at all, you know what I mean. Some of
these sites are free. Some require you to become a member.
Many entrepreneurs who want to be exporters act like
they've discovered gold when they first find one of these sites. I
know. They call me all the time! They say something like: "There's a
guy advertising that he wants to buy urea. All I've got to do is find a urea
supplier, add a penny profit to every pound and I'LL BE RICH!"
How Not to Get Rich
Now this case was urea (a kind of chemical fertilizer) but you'll see similar
offers for commodities of all kinds. Most often, it's oil, levis, urea, sugar.
But let me tell you about one of the recent "glamour" commodities, urea.
Urea is exported to the tune of about 25 million metric tons per year around the
world. Biggest exporter is Russia which ships about $10 million worth in 50,000
metric ton ships. Lots of product. Lots of money.
That's when the scam artists got involved and that's
why lots of well-meaning but ignorant entrepreneurs got hurt!
Friend, there used to be tremendous discounts on bulk buys of urea but those
days are long gone. If you try to broker a purchase of urea from Russia and
resell it, the odds are about 99 per cent that you will fail and very likely be
ripped off. New buyers -- especially through the Internet -- believe the phony
offers of huge discounts when buying in large quantities. It sounds logical. But
what usually happens is the seller wants to get into your bank account or get
you to open a letter of credit which he can trade in various banking circles.
And That's the Reason Why . . .
I sometimes find it so annoying. I don't want you to
make the same mistake. It's frustrating because while fortunes are
being made in the global market, it is also an easy way to lose money in a
hurry. The two biggest reasons? Greed and impatience.
Now I'm going to show you how you can make money in international trade. Real
money. And how you can do it honestly and safely with continuing
returns. I'm going to show you the tested ideas used by successful exporters,
sneaky little tricks, and wealth-building strategies used today by the top
people in the field.
Let me tell you a little about this web site. I've designed it to help you learn
many of the tricks of the trade and find out what works best for identifying the
best products . . . and not just the best products for anybody, the best
products for you. That's important. It's something I call building on your
edge. And everybody's edge is different.

and lots of money in the export business. Before I give you this tip (and I'll
get to it eventually -- don't worry!), I
want to tell you a little story.
About 13 years ago, a building contractor ordered a copy of my video tape, "How to Make $100,000 a Year with Your Own Export Management Company." This tape isn't going to win any academy awards but it gives a simple overview of how to make a bucket of money in exporting and a lot of people have viewed it (it's included with most of my trade packages).
Anyway, this contractor was burned out from overwork. Exhausted. Done in. He'd always wanted to go to England so he took a vacation there. Before he went, he viewed my tape. It explained to him how to take advantage of his edge. In his case, that edge was familiarity with building material, specifically cement. He knew some U.S. cement suppliers and they knew him.
While in England, the contractor met with some buyers almost on a whim. He hadn't expected much. But guess what? He closed a deal for $52,650 in just a few days. And he made a cool 12 per cent commission (that's $6,318 if you're keeping score)!
He called me up all excited as soon as he got back to tell me he followed my tape and made the sale. It was great news. Well, Dennis, you may be saying, that's wonderful but $6,300 is a long way from $100,000. Right you are. But this contractor now had a steady customer in England. A real buyer, not some trader wanna-be he found at a web site. And while this English customer buys more cement through him later, the contractor is finding other buyers as well as new suppliers so he can sell more products to current customers.
It adds up, believe me. And he has credibility. And experience as an exporter.
Valuable Tip # 1
Now I'm going to tell you why that's important. Stand by. Here comes the

identify a supplier first....
I'm going to say this again because it's so important. The first thing you need
to do as an exporter is to identify a supplier who has a product that can be
exported.
You see, new exporters (the smart ones, anyway) don't actually BUY the
product they export. Instead, they approach a supplier and offer to find buyers
and collect a commission when the sale is made. It happens all the time. If you
also help with financing and shipping, you can get a bigger commission. Don't
worry if you know nothing about banking and shipping products overseas. There
are lots of experts who will help you with these matters. I'll tell you who they
are.
When you're starting out, your job is to find suppliers. Unfortunately, they
won't just fall into your lap. Usually you've got to have some credibility
before they'll want to work with you. Credibility comes from knowing something
about their product. That's what your edge is all about.
Our contractor's edge was familiarity with concrete and cement and the supplier.
He had credibility because he wasn't just some Joe Blow off the street who
thought he could sell cement. He understood it and knew the supplier. It was
pretty easy to convince the supplier to let him take a stab at selling the stuff
while he was in England. Neat, huh?
And guess what else? His supplier was a small company in his home town.
Remember when I said the opportunities existed in the small and mid-sized
companies who weren't exporting? These companies are ripe for
exporting and individuals like yourself usually find them much easier to
approach than the bigger companies that probably have their own exporting
departments anyway!
